Brisbane Dive Academy is an SSI Instructor Training Centre that offers the most comprehensive diver training of any dive centre in the region. We strive to provide one of the finest Instructor training programs available in Australia. Based on the philosophy that every student is a direct reflection of their mentor, we train all of our Instructors to the highest standards. With this backing, our Instructors always find work in the dive industry both here in Australia and overseas.
Candidates have travelled from far and wide to complete their training here with us including from as far as Bermuda and American Samoa!
Brisbane Dive Academy was a PADI 5 Star Career Development Centre but in 2022 crossed over to become an SSI Instructor Training Centre. While Brisbane Dive Academy was a PADI member we received multiple awards from PADI for Outstanding Contribution to Diver Education in 2013 and in 2016 and for Outstanding Contribution to Instructor Development.
Our team is headed up by our owner Mick Wheatley. Mick has been diving since he was 15 and working in the dive industry since January 1997. Having trained people locally, up and down the east coast of Australia and travelling around the Asia Pacific region to train others. Prior to becomming an SSI Instructor Trainer Mick successfully completed the PADI Course Director program in 2010 and successfully delivered the PADI Instructor Development Course and professional continuing education courses to hundreds of PADI Professionals. Mick started Tec Diving in 1998 and has also achieved certification as a PADI TecRec Instructor Trainer and is also an Instructor on several Rebreather units and has also been an active TDI member.
Our Key Instructor Development team member is Dillon, Dillon came to Brisbane Dive Academy in 2016 as an Open Water Diver and has worked his way through the ranks to become a PADI IDC Staff Instructor and in February 2022 achievd the rating of SSI Instructor Trainer. Dillon can be found most days mentoring divers of all levels passing on valuable lessons he has picked during his career.
Supporting Mick and Dillon is an instructional team who provide an additional perspective and support to the training you will so you don't just learn from one person. You will get advice and help from a number of highly trained and motivated individuals so that way you can take the best of everyone then apply and adapt that information to you so that you can become the best instructor you can be.
